Velvet Buck

I only get to see this boy on the weekends. He usually stops by around mid-morning for a drink and to graze whatever food the does and fawns have left behind. Always cautious. Always alert. He has, however, allowed our presence at the window or on the back deck - with some limits. I am grateful that he allows us this observation time.

And your reverence for all things living? Yeah. That's pretty fantastic too.

We have a lot of deer here. There was a family of three grazing in my neighbors front yard the other morning. Wish I'd had my camera. They've been doing construction and it's driven them out into the neighborhoods.

Well, they tend to be very shy so that's normal I would say. I'm surprised that you get him that close at all.

He's very beautiful :))

Beautiful buck, Seamus! Would love to see him in motion, deers are such graceful creatures. Saw one leap a 5 ft tall hurricane fence on the run once. Amazing!

Cheers!

He's a beauty! Bucks do tend to be more wary than does do. You're lucky he's one of your regulars.

Ohh, he's totally watching you take that picture, isn't he? Very alert, indeed.

Love the dappled lighting and how that plays on his beautiful antlers. That velvet looks like brown moss and so very soft. Wonder if he lets the ladies stroke that? :P

I was over at Sequim, at the game park there and got to feel some antlers in velvet as we gave the little bucks some nibbles of food.
They felt so amazing.
Your visiting buck is gorgeous.
