An unscheduled break

I know many of you have seen it or experienced the aftermath of the unloading of the Trojan … thus they pretend, but in the hollow side, selected numbers of their soldiers hide* … havoc, confusion, death and destruction! So it was that my faithful laptop companion slowed, vomited, choked and staggered into a death spiral of endless starts with only momentary flashes of the “blue screen of death”. Neon flashes of mindless complacency also appeared in my head, believing my firewall to be impenetrable - it had done its job so very well for several years.
I wonder how often we have to learn and re-learn the value of backing up these mind dumps? I had not run a backup for better than 2 months and I feared for my files on the little 2.5” vault. I just set it aside and installed a new hard drive and started all over again. I had forgotten how fast this little gray box can be without the encumbrances of all the little trail markers and bread crumbs we leave along the way - a fresh start - a new day.
Mostly I was just pissed off and didn’t WANT to take the time to fix something caused by someone else with too much time on their hands. I just walked away from the conflagration and busied myself with other things; thus my absence here for weeks. Fortunately it is all healed including the damaged drive (now rendered a slave) - the enemy vanquished. The imperiled files have been safely tucked away on disc and all is calm here at Casa Vulpini.

aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrgggggggggg!!!!!! i feel your pain!
glad you're back in action.
Okay... buying an external hard drive TODAY! Thanks for the reminder, and you're soooo right.
Yup. Sometimes it's others evilness and sometimes it's our own stupidity (like my accidental dumping of milk into my external hard drive).
Ever since then, every first weekend of the month, I always backup my files. Which means, it's almost "that time of the month" for me... :)
Was sad to see you gone, but so very glad to see you back.
My problem is that I don't even know HOW to back up my files. I fear that my computer is rapidly going downhill all by itself, without the need for viruses, etc.
It's good to have you back!
I hate viruses and I hate people who send out viruses. Glad you're back.
Good to know that all is calm now. I hear your pain ....
Man, I have just been through this! Only I needed a reinstall instead of a hard drive. I guess you can look at the bright side and say it's a fresh start. But an expensive one. Glad you are back!!!!!
If you're running XP using system restore can usually help you get back to a point before the virus, but yeah. Back up is best.
And stop surfing prOn!
Yeah. Yeah. I know.
That's not how you got infected! No way! No sirree. You got infected looking up 'cute puppies' and 'tips on landscaping'.
Yeah.
Sure.
Right.
And here I thought you quit visiting 'cause you were just bored with me, culled me from your herd, turned into an old fart, gone by the wayside....
lost on my sense of humour, hahaha!
RIP...
I lost a laptop to a similar fate.
I mourned heavily.
With the new one, I backed up faithfully.
For a month or two...
Guess what I'm doing tomorrow, backing up again.
Glad you are back : )
Computers are so tricky like that.
Especially if you are a non-techie like myself!
How well I can feel your pain, and frustration. Some years ago I faced just this, losing over 277 pages of writings that I had not backed up nor saved as prints. For days after I walked in some kind of a daze.
I hope you're none the worse for the loss. Wish you well in 'starting over'.
So glad that you have life under control...blue screen of death...a bad thing to witness! Thank God I sleep with my Computer Tech...it's all right, don't blush...Mac and I have been an item for years, lol! (and not the MacIntosh!)

My hard drive just crashed, it's no fun!
Feel for you. I am bad at backing stuff up to - so thanks for the reminder.
I empathize, deeply, but I am also relieved that it was "only" a Trojan breaking into your virtual home and all else is calm.
