I’ve had a lot of cats over the years, but not until now have I ever had a hydro-kitty. Izzy is fascinated with water and not idly so. First thing in the morning while I’m filling the coffee maker from the RO (reverse osmosis filter) tap, she wants me to turn on the main tap so she can sit in the sink and drink from it. Washing dishes, there is Izzy wanting to paw at the suds or the running water. Run a bath and she can hear the tub filling even if she's outside. If you are the bather then you are going to have company, usually perched on your chest - it matters not if her tail gets soaked. Shaving – there Izzy is, waiting on an invitation for her to play in the water. Filling the water containers for the animals – there Izzy is pawing at the stream from the hose. Somewhere during her construction, her hydrophobic gene went missing.
Yesterday I stepped out onto the deck and there was Izzy in the bird bath lying in about ½ inch of water. Granted, it was in the upper 90s and pretty humid. She stayed there a good 30 minutes until the Mockingbird took umbrage and ran her off.

She is one beautiful cat, even with her underside all wet.
I laughed my way through this post, you have such a way of telling the story... and what great pictures!
hehehe... the bird had to run her off. hehe
... a mockingbird no less. You just know that bird was mocking her. :P
only you could have a cat that wants to swim...
LOL...she looks like a real bird trap too :p
But it looks comfy. She really fits nicely into that bird bath...hehe
I've had cats who seemed to be completely unaware of that they should be afraid of water. Back home we even had a cat who was diving in the pond, catching fish :p He never ate them, but he did catch them. Soaked and completely unaware of that his kinda usually don't take swims :p
That's funny! I have had cats do odd things, but not play in the water!
On the cat note, I'm a little sad that my feral cats have apparently gone away. The food I put out for them has stayed for over a week. :'(
She must have been a fish in a previous life.. a catfish, no doubt. ;)
Seamus, I had a friend who told me her "maine coon cats" loved the water. Those are the only cat I've ever heard about that liked the water enough to lie in it. Have you typed her?
Cheers!
Lee
Funny kitty. My cats would never in a million years do that. If they even get a drop on them they are totally up in arms.
I don't want to play favorites but where is Gryphon???

This just cracked me up! I've never seen such a thing!
Best place to be when its hot! :)
Literally the cat's whiskers!
If that isn't the cutest thing? I always get a laugh when my cats find some crazy spot to hang out in. I imagine you had to laugh at this one!
I tried to leave a comment yesterday, but my computer wouldn't cooperate. That cat is beautiful and it is a wonderful photo - calendar worthy!!
I once had a cat that liked to curl up in our bathroom sink even when there was water in it.
Unusual! we have stray cats (and squirrels) that jump on the birdbath to get a drink, but not to take a bath!
That is funny...cats do do the most funny things.
Seamus this may be my all time favorite picture...being the Grandmother of the Crazy Kitten Girl...our cats do the same thing, except mostly they lie on their backs mouth agape hoping some birdbrain will land, thus making dinner easier to obtain! I keep my water pistol handy and have become a deadeye shot!!!

that is just so funny. she must have a tiger gene or two as they are water lovers among the big cats.
she certainly has gorgeous eyes too.
What a cutie! Congrats on the Post of the Day Award!
That's one COOL cat.
I think Izzy was a fish in a previous life. In her current life she is a beautiful feline with great character.
This is what I love about cats. They always amuse. What a great post. Thanks for sharing it with us. Found at Davids.
Amazing. My old cat Fiddle used to get in the birdbath, but only after the water evaporated. I thought I had a photo of him in it on my blog some time back. He passed on in 2002. Izzy's one Kool Kat!
My niece used to have a cat that was fascinated with water too. So not typical! I love these photos! ~Lori
To say it with William Blake,
"In what furnace, er, water was thy brain?"
Must be the cleanest cat around! :-)
Love your cat. Mine is a lot like that. Her favorite place to sleep in the bathtub, wet or dry.
